What to Expect from Your Facelift Consultation

We all want to look our best, whether we’re starting our workday, going on a date, or simply enjoying the company of family and friends. Looking good and feeling great go hand-in-hand, and improving your appearance can help to boost your confidence.

While cosmetics can go a long way toward highlighting your favorite features, there may come a time when you need something more to help the image in the mirror match the way you see yourself. A facelift procedure provides the opportunity to rejuvenate your appearance, address any signs of aging that bother you, and reimagine yourself.

At Kaniff Cosmetic Medical Center, we understand how important it is to feel like your best self. We’re pleased to offer consultations for patients in and around the Sacramento area, Tahoe, Modesto, Bay Area, and even Oregon. Here’s what you can expect during a consultation with Dr. Kaniff.

General Discussion and Goal-Setting

A consultation begins with a discussion about why you’re seeking facelift surgery, your cosmetic goals, the outcome you’re seeking. It’s important for patients to voice their wants and expectations and fully understand what is possible with cosmetic surgery to enjoy successful outcomes.

This is also an opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns about the procedure, the recovery process, and anticipated outcomes. You want to make an informed decision about moving ahead with your planned facelift procedure.

During your consultation, you may be interested in seeing before-and-after photos of other successful cosmetic procedures, and you can ask for patient references. Dr. Kaniff is also happy to offer alternative suggestions based on your comfort level and desired results. The goal is always to ensure your satisfaction with the outcome, and this may include considering other procedures that better suit your wants, needs, and preferences.

Customized Facelift Surgery Plan Development

Once you’ve discussed what you hope to accomplish through cosmetic surgery, you can move forward with creating a customized plan for your facelift. The plan will focus on your areas of concern, with an eye toward achieving natural results that restore a more youthful appearance.

Kaniff Cosmetic Medical Center relies on the latest technologies and techniques, with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. Our computer imaging tool helps you visualize the outcome of your planned procedure. Seeing how you’ll look when your cosmetic procedure is complete is an important part of the planning process that allows you to make an informed decision and feel comfortable and confident about achieving your goals.

A Breakdown of the Procedure

While every facelift surgery is designed to meet a patient’s individual needs and preferences, there are standard processes in place to ensure safety and positive outcomes. Learn what happens during and after this procedure below.

Facelift Surgery

A range of surgical techniques is involved in making incisions, removing excess fat and skin, and repositioning underlying muscle and tissue during a facelift. The particulars of each procedure are tailored to the particular patient in question.

In all facelift surgeries, doctors place incisions along natural creases and edges, such as the hairline. When healing is complete, scars should be hidden and discreet. Dr. Kaniff has refined his technique so that surgical drains are not required during recovery, making the process easier on patients.

The facelift procedure involves a combination of local and twilight anesthesia. This option is intended to deliver patient comfort during the procedure and alleviate side effects common to general anesthesia, such as nausea and longer recovery times. Facelifts are typically outpatient procedures, which means you can return home the same day to begin your recovery.

Recovery Process

Most patients return to work and normal daily activities about 10-14 days after surgery, and you may resume strenuous activities within about four to six weeks. Bruising and swelling are expected and can be minimized with proper wound care methods specified by your doctors. Pain medication is available if needed to ensure your comfort, although not all patients need it.

It can take several months to fully heal from any surgical procedure, but you can expect your rejuvenated appearance to last for up to about ten years or more, depending on a range of factors.

Costs Overview

Before you schedule your procedure, it’s important to understand associated costs. Once you’ve decided on what you want, you will receive a detailed estimate of fees.

Complementary Procedures

While many patients conduct their own research before scheduling a consultation, this meeting provides the perfect opportunity to fully understand the facelift procedure and discuss anticipated and desired results. You may find that you’re interested in any number of complementary procedures that will enhance the overall outcome.

Some patients elect to combine a facelift with cosmetic procedures like eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), a forehead or brow lift, or a chin implant procedure. Others include dermal fillers, fat transfer, or skin resurfacing. The consultation is your chance to ask questions, discuss what you hope to accomplish, and seek a professional opinion about which procedures best suit your personal needs.

Schedule Your Facelift Appointment

After you’ve taken the time to discuss what you want, understand facelift surgery, and view computer imaging of anticipated results, you may be ready to schedule your procedure. You can take some time to absorb the information you’ve received, think it over, and ask any additional questions you may have.
