What is Microneedling RF with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?
Microneedling RF for acne scars is a FDA approved minimally invasive, minimal downtime procedure that helps to build collagen, tone and tighten the skin and minimize signs of aging. Microneedling with RF combines different modalities proven to help the appearance of the skin by stimulating collagen and elastin.
Microneedling also known as collagen induction therapy uses very small needles to penetrate the skin. The RF stands for radio frequency, which automatically delivers heat to the deeper skin layer through the microscopic needles stimulating collagen and elastin. Both of these modalities, the micro needles and radiofrequency energy, induce new collagen formation creating tighter, firmer and brighter skin. Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP which contain nutrients from stem cells is applied to the skin after immediately after the microneedling, penetrating through the microscopic holes created by the needles and further enhancing the collagen induction process.
Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP is obtained from blood drawn from your arm, spun in a centrifuge to isolate the platelet rich layer of serum which is then applied to the microscopic holes created by the microneedling device. The stem cell like properties of your own plasma further stimulates collagen and elastin creating more radiant, younger looking skin. PRP has multiple other medical uses including joint issues and hair loss.

Who performs Microneedling RF with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?
Microneedling RF with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is performed by Sacramento plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Kaniff at the Kaniff Cosmetic Medical Center and takes approximately thirty minutes.
How is the Microneedling RF with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) performed?
Numbing cream is applied to the treatment area for 30 – 40 minutes. Blood is drawn from the arm and then specially prepared to isolate the platelet rich plasma. The Microneedling RF is performed using a handheld device with a specialized tip that is tailored to your skin’s thickness while simultaneously heating the collagen with the radio frequency energy. Before the micro holes from the needle can close the PRP spread over the area allowing the PRP rich with growth factors to penetrate into the collagen layer to help with the collagen rejuvenation and healing process. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to perform. The procedure is performed in a series of three, one month apart. The results are cumulative over the course of the three treatments with the best results visible 6-8 weeks following the last treatment.
Frequently a Laser Peel is performed immediately after Microneedling RF with PRP to improve patchy pigmentation problems.
