Almost everyone becomes subject to the effects of sun damage at some point. Some of this damage is unseen, but it’s often evident in the form of age spots and uneven skin tone. The IPL Photofacial is ideal for patients who are looking to get brighter, healthier skin with a more even tone.
Ipl Photofacial
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) has garnered a reputation as a convenient, non-invasive treatment that brightens and revitalizes the skin. The IPL Photofacial effectively improves blotchy, uneven skin pigmentation, rosacea, broken capillaries, pore size and skin tone. For best results, a series of multiple treatment sessions is recommended.
The treatment works by administering pulses of light energy to the skin. This light energy bypasses the epidermis and is absorbed by the pigment present in age spots or brown spots. If you are treating rosacea or vascular lesions, the light will be absorbed by the hemoglobin within the red blood cells. Once treated, pigmented areas will be gradually absorbed by the body over time.
You could benefit from this treatment if you are looking to address age spots that have appeared as a result of sun damage. IPL also makes an excellent treatment for any of the following conditions:
- Rosacea
- Uneven skin tone
- Blotchy skin
- Visible facial veins
Before your treatment begins, we will provide you with special goggles to protect your eyes. Most patients also need nothing more than a cooling gel to stay comfortable throughout their appointment. Treatments tend to become more comfortable over time, especially as pigmented lesions begin to disappear.
Other than some mild redness, the IPL Photofacial does not come with significant side effects. Any redness that does appear on the skin can be covered with makeup and typically resolves on its own within a couple days.

The number of treatment sessions you will need will depend on the severity of your skin concerns. In general, however, most people achieve desirable results after three to five sessions, spaced about one month apart.
