About Hypotrichosis
Hypotrichosis is the medical name for inadequate eyelash growth. A large percentage of adults are familiar with the symptoms if not the name. It isn’t a threatening medical condition or a disease. It simply refers to the inability for the upper eyelid follicles to produce long, thick lashes.
Bimatoprost is the generic name of a specialized formulation that treats glaucoma. One of the interesting side effects is the stimulation of healthy lash growth.
When applied on a regular basis to the upper lash line, the follicles are stimulated and begin to accelerate the production of hair cells. These cells are thicker and denser, and the result is healthy lashes that last longer before falling out.
How Latisse® is Applied
Latisse® is a formulation that includes bimatoprost. It is a prescription formula and is therefore not available for off-the-shelf purchase. It must be applied in a certain way so as not to irritate the eyes.
For best results, several treatment sessions are scheduled, and before we perform this type of cosmetic treatment, we consult with the client. We offer realistic results expectations after closely examining the eyelashes.
The formulation is brushed onto the upper eyelid lash line. The process is repeated at regular intervals. Over the next month or so, the lashes begin to grow longer because the follicles that produce the hairs continue with a growth phase that is longer in duration than normal.
Are There Side Effects?
Most individuals report no negative side effects from Latisse®. Those who attempt to apply Latisse® themselves often have trouble keeping the liquid from running down the lids, which can stimulate growth on other areas of the eyelids.
