Facelift Surgery

The Facelift Sacramento operation is designed to improve the appearance of sagging, loose skin of the face and neck. As the aging process occurs the skin, fat, and muscles of the face and neck begin to lose tone, droop and wrinkle. With a facelift we can shore up the foundation layers of the tissue under the skin and then tighten the skin itself to give a more youthful and natural appearance. The incisions and techniques are varied to suit each patients’ individual needs, but in all cases the incisions are placed along natural skin creases and generally imperceptible once they heal. It is important to recognize that the goal of a more youthful and natural appearance and that attempting to eliminate every wrinkle or crease may create an unnatural, drawn appearance.

People having facelifts can be divided into 2 groups; 1) those wishing to forestall the aging process by maintaining a more youthful look and 2) those wishing to regain a more youthful look. The goals and expectations of each group are different. The first group we will call the maintenance group. They have less dramatic peers. The second group will have a more dramatic improvement in appearance since the aging process has been steadily progressing.

The aging process is a continual process and the duration of improvement after a facelift usually lasts five to ten years. A procedure called a tuck-up can be performed after one or several years. It usually is not necessary, but may be in those individuals who are overweight, have heavy faces or have waited until sagging and wrinkling are extreme prior to their initial facelift operation. The tuck-up procedure is a much less extensive operation and if performed in a timely fashion will give a more long lasting result.

Finally it should be recognized that the aging process affects all areas of your body as well as all areas of your face. While the facelift will provide a more youthful appearance to the forehead, cheeks and neck certain other procedures may need to be considered to complete the rejuvenated appearance. Procedures may need to compliment the results of a facelift are: eyelid surgery, eyebrow surgery, chin augmentation, and chemical peeling of the wrinkles around the mouth. While it is certainly necessary to have any of the other procedures performed it is important to discuss what options are available to you to achieve your best look.
