What Is a Rhytidectomy?

Are you tired of having people approach you just to tell you that you look tired? Sometimes skin laxity and wrinkles can make you look older and more tired than you feel on the inside. If you want your face to reflect your youthful personality and vibrancy, you can consider facelift surgery.

At our practice in Sacramento, we offer facelift surgeries to help resolve sagging skin, wrinkles, skin laxity, deep lines, and more. At Kaniff Cosmetic Medical Center, we have a refreshing outlook on cosmetics and plastic surgery. We believe that the way you feel on the inside is even more important than the way you look on the outside. Because of this, we spend more time than usual with each of our patients to help them find the best options for them.

What Is a Facelift or Rhytidectomy?

Facelift surgery is also known as a rhytidectomy. This is a broad term that describes any surgical procedure that is used to lift the skin of the face and neck. The face can be made to look younger by lifting the muscle and the skin into a higher position and by removing any excess skin that is on the face because of skin laxity. Different procedures may be done under this heading to achieve various results.

What Is the Best Facelift Surgery for You?

If you have decided that facelift surgery is something that you want to treat yourself to, we will give you several different options at our practice. Some facelift procedures are designed to lift the skin in your lower face and jaw while others are more targeted to your neck area. Options that we offer include:

Mini Facelift

The mini facelift, sometimes called a cheek lift or K-lift, is a procedure that can lift the lower half of your face. During this surgery, we will make a small incision near your ear. This incision is the smallest incision of all of our facelift procedures which can make it a popular option for many people.

After the incision, we are able to reduce wrinkles and sagging skin in the cheeks, mouth, and jawline. With this type of facelift surgery, you will enjoy a faster recovery time and still be able to see dramatic results from your surgery. Full Facelift

During a full facelift, we lift skin, muscles, and other tissues in both the lower face and the neck areas. A deep plane facelift reaches the deep muscles and tissues of the area which allows us to lift and restructure the face without a very large incision or much downtime.

A full Rhytidectomy can be an ideal option for patients who are seeing skin laxity, wrinkling, and sagging in both their face and their neck regions. During the operation, your surgeon will make an incision that is customized to your facial shape. These incisions will usually be placed in front of and around the ear. Much of the incision will be hidden in the hairline or in the natural creases of your face and you can expect it to almost invisible by the time it heals completely.

Neck Lift

Additional fullness and skin laxity in the neck can cause your face to appear much older. By reducing fullness under the chin and removing excess skin on the jowls and neck skin, you can create a more youthful and defined jawline.

Our Facelift Procedures

Whether you choose a facelift, a mini facelift, or a neck lift, much of the process will be the same. You will begin with a consultation to make sure this procedure is the right fit for you. We have many other non surgical and minimally invasive procedures that we may recommend in certain circumstances.

If the facelift surgery is a good fit for you, we will be able to show you your projected outcomes with our advanced imaging technology. You can see a 3D image of your current facial structure as well as an image of what your face could look like after the procedure. While results can vary, this is an accurate technology that can help you know what to expect.

What Type of Anesthetic Do We Use?

At our practice, we prefer to use something called twilight anesthesia. We find that with this type of anesthesia, our patients are able to remain very comfortable during the procedure without the additional bruising and nausea that can come with general anesthesia. Patients can also recover much faster and feel better more quickly after their procedure.

During twilight anesthesia, you will receive local anesthetic in the operation area. You will then be placed under sedation so that you are still aware but feel very relaxed and comfortable. The benefit of this type of anesthesia is that you will still be able to communicate with your surgeon and will be conscious but you won’t feel any anxiety or pain during the procedure. You can also be woken up very quickly from this type of anesthetic.

Consultations for Facelift and Neck Lift Surgery

While skin laxity and wrinkles are something that everyone will notice as they get older, facelift surgery can delay the process and make you look 10 or more years younger. By removing excess skin and lifting the muscles of your face, you can look much brighter and more refreshed. You can schedule a consultation with us any time at Kaniff Cosmetic Medical Center.
