Rhinoplasty: What to Expect

A rhinoplasty procedure, more commonly known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure done on the nose. It can be cosmetic or functional. A cosmetic procedure is done to make the patient’s nose more attractive, while functional rhinoplasty is done to restore normal function to the nose and enable the patient to breathe more easily. Examples of functional rhinoplasties include repairing a broken nose and correcting a deviated septum.

What Does Rhinoplasty Involve?

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure that is performed in the comfort of our state-of-the-art surgical facility. The patient can go home after a short recovery period, during which the medical staff will monitor them. Depending on what the surgery will involve, the procedure can be either closed or open.

During the procedure, our surgeon can make the nose smaller by removing excess bone and/or cartilage. He can enlarge the nose using specialized techniques. He can also straighten the nose or make the tip and/or nostrils more proportionate. The procedure is completely customized based on the patient’s wants and needs.

It’s important to keep in mind that the results of rhinoplasty are designed to be permanent. That’s one of the reasons why it’s so important to have an open and honest discussion with Dr. Kaniff during your consultation. During your meeting, you’ll want to make sure to explain your cosmetic goals and exactly what it is that you don’t like about your nose. From there, a customized procedure can be planned for you.
