Unsightly Spider Veins
Spider veins can be greatly diminished through an injection technique known as Sclerotherapy.
Treatment involves injecting a special solution with a tiny needle into vein blemishes, diminishing them with minimal discomfort. Although some sclerosing solutions burn or cause a cramping sensation when injected, the solution we use is safe, effective and completely painless upon injection. Sclerotherapy irritates the delicate lining of blood vessels causing them to swell shut. Treated veins eventually shrivel up and are absorbed by the body resulting in an improved cosmetic appearance of the skin.
The number of treatments necessary to achieve the desired cosmetic effect is variable. Generally, patients require three or more injection sessions. Activity restrictions following treatment are minimal: for three days avoid pounding exercises and heavy weight lifting. Walking, however, is advised. Ace wraps are worn for two and a half days to keep treated veins compressed. Bruising is to be expected. Treated areas tend to look worse before they look better and you should be prepared for this.
Treatment methods such as laser and pulsed light sources tend to be significantly more expensive while producing less favorable results. Sclerotherapy has been practiced since the 1930’s and remains today unequaled in effectiveness. Patient satisfaction with sclerotherapy treatments is high.
