Am I a Candidate for Microneedling?
Everyone is a potential candidate for microneedling. As we age, our skin begins to show signs of environmental injuries such as fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and stretch marks, which detract from its youthful and supple texture. The micro-needling takes advantage of the skin’s natural ability to heal itself and unlike lasers it can be safely used on all skin types and offers minimal downtime!
Microneedling RF at Kaniff Cosmetic Medical Center
As a board certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Thomas Kaniff offers micro-needling to patients who desire a non-invasive facial rejuvenation procedure without the downtime of fractionated laser options or deep chemical peels. Sacramento plastic surgery patients, who have trusted their faces to Kaniff Cosmetic Medical Center for over 20 years, will enjoy the benefits of microneedling alone or in combination with other non-invasive options such as PRP, Botox, Juvederm, Sculptra and IPL treatments.
How Microneedling RF Works
The microneedling RF device is a safe, state-of-the-art, handheld device that contains fine needles that, when moved over the skin, create controlled micro-injuries. Each tiny puncture makes a channel that triggers the skin to repair itself by producing new collagen and elastin. This repair process results in a softer appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
We can also take advantage of these newly created “channels” which allow for deeper penetration of products like hyaluronic acid, growth factors or even the patient’s own natural platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to enhance the effects (see below).
We would first apply a thin layer of topical numbing gel to the treatment area for comfort. Because the microneedles are moving up and down so rapidly, most patients feel only minor discomfort or tingling as the device glides over the skin. Depending on the area, the treatment time is 15-40 minutes.
Immediately afterward, there will be a redness to the skin with a warm, tight sensation. The redness generally subsides over 2-4 days and a small amount of peeling may occur. Some patients heal within 24 hours. The healing will continue over the next month to 6 months with the new collagen creating improved texture and appearance.
What Areas are Treated with Microneedling?
Because the micro-needling system can be adjusted to several depths of penetration, it can be used to address uneven skin tone, acne scars and stretch marks on all parts of the body including: face, neck, décolleté’, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.

How Many Microneedling Treatments are Recommended?
The number of microneedling treatments depends on your skin characteristics, treatment area and your goals. Most patients will require 2-3 treatments about 6-8 weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, stretch marks or acne scars, it would be 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals for the best results. Patients can expect to see improved results for up to 6 months and maintenance treatments every 6 months to 1 year are typically recommended.
Microneedling Cost
The cost of microneedling depends on the area treated and the number of sessions recommended. Microneedling is often part of a treatment package designed to combine the best of non-invasive treatments to treat your concerns.
PRP Sacramento
PRP is available to plastic surgery patients from throughout the Sacramento area including Folsom, Rocklin and Elk Grove. PRP uses platelets, growth factors and other special cells isolated from your own blood to stimulate your body’s regenerating processes and help rejuvenate changes associated with the aging process.
What is PRP?
At Kaniff Cosmetic Medical Center, PRP is prepared by taking a sample of the patient’s blood, spinning it in a centrifuge and isolating platelets and eight growth factors, which act to increase collagen and elastin production – important components to vibrant and healthy skin.
PRP is often used in combination with other non-invasive treatments to enhance the results of these treatments.
Who is a PRP candidate?
Candidates for PRP are patients who desire to maximize the results of their plastic surgery procedures. PRP and micro-needling are often combined to deliver the rejuvenating platelet-rich plasma deeper into the skin using the microneedle process leading to a better overall result.
PRP can be combined with cosmetic injectable products such as Juvederm, Restylane and Sculptra. PRP can also be combined with other skin stimulating treatments such as IPL.
PRP cost
The cost of PRP is based on the treatment plan developed by Dr. Kaniff or a member of his team which includes other recommended procedures such as micro-needling, dermal fillers, Scultpra® or intense pulsed light (IPL).
