Can a Nose Job Make My Nose Smaller?

Having a misshapen, crooked, or disproportionately large nose can negatively impact your appearance and make you feel embarrassed about the way that you look. Fortunately, you can easily reduce the size of your nose and correct other nasal problems by getting a nose job. At Kaniff Cosmetic Medical Center in Sacramento, California, we can use this cosmetic procedure to bring your nose into harmony with the other features on your face.

Can a Nose Job Make My Nose Smaller?

It’s common to feel like your nose is disproportionality large and out of balance with your mouth, eyes, and other facial features. A nose job, also known as a rhinoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that can dramatically improve the shape, size, and structure of your nose. This procedure can be used to make your nose look smaller.

Adjusting the Size of Your Nose

We can use several different techniques to decrease the size of your nose. The methods that we use will depend on the size and structure of your nose, as well as the parts of your nose that we are trying to change. For example, we can decrease the size of your nasal bridge by removing excess cartilage in your nose.

Improving Your Nasal Tip

Sometimes, the appearance of your nasal tip can cause your nose to look excessively large. You may experience this problem if the tip of your nose is too long. We can correct this issue by moving your nasal tip into a more upright position on your face. This change will make your nose look shorter and smaller.

Choosing a Technique

You will have an in-depth discussion with us before you receive your rhinoplasty. During this meeting, we will look at the inside and outside of your nose. This examination will help us assess the size, structure, and general condition of your nose. In addition to looking at your nose, we will talk about your specific concerns and aesthetic goals.

At this point, we will tell you which type of rhinoplasty will be more likely to achieve your intended outcome. We can also use computer-generated images to show you how your nose is likely to look after you have finished recovering from your rhinoplasty.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Rhinoplasty?

If you are a woman, you are likely to be eligible for a rhinoplasty when you are over the age of 15. If you are a man, you will need to be above the age of 16. In addition to your age, we will also consider your emotional maturity and lifestyle. For example, if you frequently participate in contact sports, you might not be able to get this procedure.

That said, you don’t have to be a young adult to benefit from a rhinoplasty. As you age, your nose may begin to look longer. In addition, the tip of your nose may begin to droop. A rhinoplasty can correct these age-related changes and give your face a more youthful appearance. In fact, it’s common to combine your rhinoplasty with a facelift, eyelid procedure, or other anti-aging procedure.

What Type of Rhinoplasty Should I Receive?

We can perform several different types of rhinoplasties at Kaniff Cosmetic Medical Center.

A Tip Rhinoplasty

If you don’t like the way that your nasal tip looks, you should think about getting a tip rhinoplasty. During this type of aesthetic procedure, we will change the nasal tip that is located on the lower portion of your nose. We will use specialized methods to change the cartilage in this part of your nose. This technique can improve the shape, projection, or rotation of your nasal tip.

Closed Rhinoplasty

We frequently perform closed rhinoplasties. During this type of procedure, we will make incisions inside your nose. We will use these incisions to make changes to your bones and cartilage.

An Open Rhinoplasty

An open rhinoplasty is a good way to make more extensive changes to your nose. To perform this type of rhinoplasty, we will make incisions inside your nose and across the skin bridge that is located between your nostrils. This part of your nose is called the columella.

These incisions will allow us to obtain a better view of the cartilage in your nasal tip. As a result, we may use this technique if we need to place several cartilage grafts into your nose.

A Non-Invasive Rhinoplasty

Under some circumstances, we may be able to use non-invasive methods to temporarily change the appearance of your nose. For example, we can use dermal fillers to add volume to specific parts of your nose. This extra volume can minimize nasal features that you don’t like.

A Revision Rhinoplasty

If you are unhappy with the results of a rhinoplasty that you received in the past, you might benefit from getting a revision rhinoplasty. This type of rhinoplasty will improve the results of your previous nasal procedure.

Will My Nose Be Broken During My Nasal Procedure?

In the past, medical providers often broke the bones in the nose during rhinoplasties. After these nasal bones were broken, the medical provider would reset these bones into better positions.

We do not use this old-fashioned technique at Kaniff Cosmetic Medical Center. If your bones need to be repositioned during your rhinoplasty, we will make a small incision into your skin. This incision will allow us to carefully reposition your bones without breaking your nose. In addition, this method will help us achieve better results during your procedure.

What Will My Rhinoplasty Be Like?

You will receive anesthesia before we begin to improve your nose. We may use general anesthesia during your appointment. If you receive this type of anesthesia, you will be unconscious during your rhinoplasty. Alternatively, we can use sedation and local anesthesia to help you feel relaxed during this process.

Beginning Your Procedure

Although we can use a variety of techniques to improve your nose, we will usually start by making small incisions in your nostrils or under the base of your nose. These incisions will enable us to improve the condition of the cartilage and bones in your nose. After we have made these incisions, we might reposition your bones, remove some of your cartilage, or reshape your cartilage.

Performing Cartilage Grafts

Sometimes, we will perform cartilage grafts during your rhinoplasty. We may remove cartilage from your ribs or ears and place this material inside your nose. In addition, we can correct issues that are impairing your ability to breathe.

What Will My Rhinoplasty Recovery Period Be Like?

After you get this procedure, we will put a nasal splint on your nose. Wearing this device will protect your tissues during the recovery process. After about a week, we will remove your nasal splint. It’s common for your tissues to have significantly recovered by this point, and you are likely to go back to your school or job at this time. However, you should not lift heavy objects, bend over, or strain your body for two weeks after your procedure.

After about two to three weeks, your tissues should be mostly back to normal. After about three weeks, your tissues should be almost fully healed. Any lingering issues will gradually improve over the next several months.

Will Insurance Cover the Cost of My Rhinoplasty?

In most situations, rhinoplasty is an aesthetic procedure that is used to improve the appearance of your nose. Since this procedure will not be medically necessary, your health insurance will not contribute to the cost of your rhinoplasty. However, if you are paying for this procedure on your own, we may be able to offer financing options that will help you fit your rhinoplasty into your budget.

Sometimes, the shape of your nose can impair your ability to breathe. If your rhinoplasty will improve your breathing, your health insurance may contribute to the cost of this nasal procedure.

How Long Will My Rhinoplasty Last?

A rhinoplasty will produce permanent changes in the structure of your nose. Accordingly, you shouldn’t need to get any follow-up procedures in order to preserve your new nose.

However, all of the features on your face will change as you get older. In particular, your nose may become longer and droopier over time. Since a rhinoplasty cannot stop you from continuing to age, you are likely to experience these changes during the later part of your life.

Can I Receive Other Procedures in Connection With My Rhinoplasty?

We frequently perform other aesthetic procedures in connection with a nose job. Your ability to receive multiple procedures will depend on your health, the type of procedures that you are getting, and other variables.

A Chin Implant

It’s common to get a chin implant at the same time as your rhinoplasty. Having a small, undefined chin can negatively impact the appearance of your face. Getting a chin implant and a rhinoplasty can completely transform your profile and dramatically improve your appearance. In addition, a chin implant can minimize the visibility of sagging skin under your neck.

A Facelift

It’s also normal to combine a facelift with a rhinoplasty. A facelift, also called a rhytidectomy, is a type of aesthetic procedure that will correct loose skin on your jawline and improve the appearance of your neck and cheeks. During a facelift, we can remove unneeded skin and fat from under your chin, firm your jawline, and lift your cheeks. These changes are likely to take ten to 15 years off of your appearance.

An Eyelid Procedure

An eyelid procedure is an anti-aging technique that will refresh the appearance of the skin around your eyes. This technique can eliminate bags under your eyes and fix droopy eyelids. Scientists call this procedure a blepharoplasty. The techniques that we use during your blepharoplasty will depend on the area that we are improving.

For example, if we are improving your lower eyelids, we may make an incision under your lash line. This incision will allow us to remove excess fat and skin from under your eyes. During an upper eyelid blepharoplasty, we will make an incision in the natural crease above your eyelashes. Next, we will eliminate unneeded skin and fat from this part of your body.
